The new Trafic panel van is available in two lengths: L1 (2537 mm internal) and L2 (2937 mm internal), and in two heights. It’s more spacious, tougher built, better for you in the cabin – and it will save you on running costs.

What is it?
Once again a shared product built by both Renault and Vauxhall, and has been welcomed with glowing reviews and boast best economy in class, in particular the 125ps euro 6 unit.
You can clearly see the amount of design and development that has been invested into this vehicle, beauty was not just skin deep. Designed very much around the driver and offers good levels of trim and comfort mainly associated with todays cars. The new Trafic can boldly hold its head up against the the New Transit Custom and the VW Transporter.
The steering wheel is also height and rake adjustable and the driver’s seat adjusts for height, giving more options for a comfortable position. There are 14 stowage bins in the cab and most are specially designed to fit particular items that van drivers might have, such as water bottles, coffee cups, mobile phones, notebooks, pens, hard hats and boxes.
The old 2.0 diesel engine has been replaced by 1.6-litre units offering smoother power and fuel economy savings of around 5.8%. Now giving you four options; 90 bhp and 120 bhp with single turbo charger and 125 bhp and 145 bhp with the twin turbo Euro 6 engines with AdBlue.
The van’s cab is designed to be used as a mobile office. There is a clip for a mobile phone, another for an iPad and the back of the middle seat pulls down to reveal a little desk with an A4 clipboard that can be stood up right or even removed to give a hard board which can be removed and used as a clip board.
The passenger seats lift up to reveal a large storage area for bigger items that need to be hidden from prying eyes.
Sport specification overview
For anyone who needs to work while on the move the mobile office items are simply best in class bar none.
As can be seen from the pictures, it’s just about a complete mobile office and if you opt for Renault’s R&GO system, it opens up a whole new world of apps and technology in which the van can talk to a tablet of smartphone. Clever stuff.
The whole van is 21 cms longer, with 10 cms added to the front and 11 cms on the back. This might not sound much but it equates to an extra 0.2 cubic metres of loadspace in the rear on short wheelbase models. This now means even the SWB model can swallow the 8x4 sheets which was the Achilles heel of the previous model.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is now standard rather than a chargeable option as previous
On the safety front we would like to have seen reversing sensors as a standard fitment through the FULL range although with a rear parking camera at only a £250 option we don't really have a gripe.
Renault have earned the right to be justifiably proud of the Trafic. It is a van with a car-like driving position that’s not been seen before, offers a refined drive, is full of clever design touches and above all, the range of new engines mean it should be cheaper to run than ever.
