Pick-up trucks have long been big news in the USA, but few could have expected them to take hold over here in quite the way they have. The Ford Ranger has particularly captured the imagination of buyers on this side of the pond, consistently being the biggest selling pickup in the UK.
Trims range from workmanlike with steel wheels and lashings of black plastic to the performance-focused Raptor. The top models aren’t short of creature comforts, either.
ven though these pickups have a fashionable image, they’re about much more than just about looking the part, and aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. The Ranger has a hefty towing limit, can carry heavy loads with ease and is rather handy off-road, too.
The Ford Ranger Wildtrak is proof that you can use a workhorse commercial vehicle as an everyday car. It's big, but the Ranger is pretty easy to drive and has four doors plus space for five. That makes it as usable as any SUV.
But the Ranger Wildtrak's trump card is its carrying capacity. There's little the Ranger can't haul, but despite this it has serious appeal for owners. At a glance, its styling tweaks are obvious: 18-inch alloy wheels, lashings of chrome trim and big, bold 'Wildtrak' graphics.
Its a similar story inside, where you'll find a surprisingly sporty set of seats and a colour screen powering the car's sat-nav system.
Yet for all this kit the Ranger Wildtrak is a big, capable, tough and rugged pick-up at heart.
