NVS Verdict: The New Transit Custom has the refinements and drivability of a car all built into a commercial vehicle. The new Custom had to be good to improve on Transit and it seems Ford once again have have ticked all the boxes.
What is it?
Two wheelbase versions (L1 & L2) and four payloads (871kg for SWB models and up to an impressive 1,200kg for the LWB) are offered. There are three trim levels - Standard, Trend and the flagship Limited model
Four euro 6 engines with AdBlue (producing from 105ps up to 170), and manual or six-speed gear boxes are standard with the option of an automatic gearbox due in 2017.
The Ford Transit Custom is a van that’s designed to introduce a new level of functionality and style to the commercial vehicle market. Ford’s Transit has long been regarded as one of the best vans available, so an all-new version is big news. This isn’t a direct replacement for the Transit however, instead it’s a different kind of one-tonne vehicle that sits between the Transit Connect and the larger Transit van. - Packed with many practical features which include a load-through hatch in the bulkhead, to help store pipes or boards of up to three meters in length, and multiple fixing points and tie-down hooks. Further enhancing the van's capabilities is an optional folding roof rack. Integrated into the roof, and recessed when not in use to reduce drag, the roof rack can carry loads of up to 130kg
